AMA Charter 3235

The purpose of Asheville - Buncombe Aeromodelers (ABA) is to promote the flying of Radio Controlled (R/C) aircraft. ABA is a charter member of the Academy of Model Aeronautics(AMA), and has a membership of 40-70 pilots. For more information on the AMA, you can click on the AMA banner at the top left corner, of this page.

The club-flying site is located on the old Buncombe County Landfill. The runway surface is grass. For driving directions, take a look at our super flying field. The field is open to flying seven days a week. The hours are 8:00am - 8:00pm each day except Wednesday and Saturday. On Wednesday and Saturday, combustion engines are not to be operated after 5:00pm. Fuel powered models are not allowed to fly on Sunday. If you've been thinking you'd like to try electric models or non-powered gliders, Sunday is the day to check it out.

The club has implemented a noise rule. All internal combustion engines must be equipped with a muffler and propeller combination capable of controlling the sound level. The maximum noise allowed is 94DB, measured at nine feet from the muffler side of the model. The model being checked will be anchored to the grass field.

Club dues are currently $75 per year. If you join in the last quarter of the year (Oct - Dec), your dues include membership for the remainder of the current year and the following year.

Dinner meetings are held the first Thursday of the month at Ryan's Steak House, at the Biltmore Square Mall, in Asheville. Dinner starts at 6:00pm with the business meeting beginning at 7:00pm.

Visitors and potential members are welcome.
