Here is the picture of the new orientation of our French Broad flying site. The main runway use to be the cross wind runway. Basically, we are now flying parallel to the French Broad River. The runway is only slightly shorter than before.
The change was made to insure that no flying takes place over homes, that are located to the west, of the site. With the change, we realized other benefits:
The picture was taken from the large hill to the northwest of the field. You can just barely see the orange barrier fence and the spools. Model holders have since replaced the spools. The cross wind runway was the main runway.
To get to the field:
1. From Patton Ave., go north on Hwy 19/23. Start your mileage check.
2. Take the Elk Mtn. Rd. exit, about 2.8 miles from Patton Ave.
3. Turn left onto Elk Mtn. Rd. and follow it for about 1.5 miles to Hwy 251.
4. Turn right and go 1.6 miles. Use the northern most gate. Lock the gate behind you, going in or out!
